ARGENTINE YERBA MATE • A TRADITION SINCE 1874

GOOD TO KNOW

LET’S TALK MATE.

A few useful answers before your first pour.

What is yerba mate?

Yerba mate is made from the leaves of Ilex paraguariensis. Our traditional loose blend includes leaves and stems. Brew it in a mate gourd with a bombilla, or strain it using a tea infuser or French press.

What does con palo mean?

Con palo means with stems. The traditional cut combines leaf pieces, stems and finer particles. It is a style of yerba mate, rather than a flavor added to the leaf.

Do I need a special cup?

A gourd and a filtering straw called a bombilla are the traditional setup. A roomy tea infuser or French press also works. Cups, straws and thermoses shown in serving photographs are not included with the yerba packs.

How hot should the brewing water be?

Our preparation method uses water at about 167°F (75°C). Avoid pouring boiling water directly over the yerba. This is a brewing temperature: allow your drink to cool to a comfortable temperature before sipping.

Which pack should I choose?

Start with a 500 g bag if you want a smaller amount. The 1 kg bag suits a regular routine. Multipacks contain separate bags of the same traditional blend, so compare the bag count and total weight before choosing.
